WOODS CROSS, Utah -- A woman was taken to the hospital after trying to evade police and getting hit by two freight trains Sunday morning.
Police were called to a residence at 2300 South and Redwood Road around 8:20 a.m. Sunday on an unwanted-guest call, said Detective Adam Osoro.
The suspect was causing a disturbance at a social gathering and refused to leave when asked, prompting the residents to call police, he said.
The woman left in her vehicle, and approaching police saw her traveling southbound on Redwood Road, Osoro said. An officer attempted to pull her over, but she refused to stop.
A brief chase ensued as the woman turned eastbound on 2600 South, Osoro said. It was at 1050 West that the suspect's vehicle was at a train crossing and was struck by a southbound freight train.
As police were arriving, another southbound train on an adjacent track hit the vehicle.
Emergency crews extricated the woman from the car, which was totaled. The driver was taken to University of Utah Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
She was in stable condition as of Sunday night, Osoro said. "She was very lucky."
The woman will most likely be charged with evading a police officer, which is a felony, Osoro said.
Depending on toxicology reports, she may also be charged with DUI and, pending an investigation into the original disturbance at the residence, assault.
