A Maryland State Police trooper was airlifted to a Baltimore trauma center after a vehicle struck the trooper, who was handling traffic enforcement along the interstate in LaVale.

A Maryland State Police Trooper Was Airlifted To A Baltimore Trauma Center With Unspecified Injures After A Vehicle Struck The Trooper, Who Was Handling Traffic Enforcement Along Interstate 68 In La Vale

LAVALE, MD — A Maryland State Police trooper was injured Monday afternoon when he was struck by a vehicle while conducting traffic enforcement on Interstate 68.

The accident occurred about 1 p.m. in the west lanes near the 39-mile marker, a police spokesperson said via email.

The trooper was flown by Trooper 5, a state police medevac helicopter, to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore for treatment of unspecified injuries.

The motorist who hit the trooper remained at the scene, police said.

A second accident occurred about 1:25 p.m. in the east lanes at the 38-mile marker when a tractor-trailer hit multiple stopped vehicles.

Some of the first responders who responded to the first accident left that scene to assist at the second.
