LAVALE, MD — A Maryland State Police trooper was injured Monday afternoon when he was struck by a vehicle while conducting traffic enforcement on Interstate 68.
The accident occurred about 1 p.m. in the west lanes near the 39-mile marker, a police spokesperson said via email.
The trooper was flown by Trooper 5, a state police medevac helicopter, to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore for treatment of unspecified injuries.
The motorist who hit the trooper remained at the scene, police said.
A second accident occurred about 1:25 p.m. in the east lanes at the 38-mile marker when a tractor-trailer hit multiple stopped vehicles.
Some of the first responders who responded to the first accident left that scene to assist at the second.
Additional information about the accidents was not immediately available.
