New York Trooper Suffers Fatal Heart Attack

A veteran New York trooper suffered a fatal heart attack on Aug. 23 while attending a Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance conference.

Trooper William P. Keane, 56, was representing the New York State Police at the North American Inspectors Championship in Salt Lake City, Utah, according to a department news release.

Keane had been participating in the timed commercial vehicle inspection events when fell ill. He was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The 26-year veteran of the department spent his entire career in Troop A and had been a member of the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit since 1995. Previously, Keane served in the United States Navy for four years.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon, his seven children and his five grandchildren.

Funeral Arrangements

Visitation will for Trooper Keane will be held Wednesday, Aug. 28 and Thursday, Aug. 29 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at John J. Kaczor Funderal Home, 5453 Southwestern Blvd., Hamburg, N.Y.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 30 at 10 a.m. in St. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church, 66 East Main St., Hamburg, N.Y.
