A Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics agent was killed during a shootout early Saturday morning.

Special Agent Lee Tartt was fatally wounded during a standoff situation in Tishomingo County in which three Mississippi Highway Patrol SWAT officers also were injured, according to The Clarion-Ledger.

Department of Public Safety spokesman Warren Strain said that Tishomingo County deputies responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence at residence at 231 CR 201 around 5:15 p.m. Friday when the situation quickly escalated to a standoff after a man refused with officers' commands to leave the home.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol, Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics responded at the request of the Tishomingo County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities negotiated with 45-year-old Charles Lee Lambert for six hours before two tactical teams entered the home. After making entry, shot were exchanged between the suspect and SWAT officers.

Lambert, who was armed with a high-powered rifle, was fatally shot by the officers. Tartt and the three troopers also were wounded.

A woman and a 10-year-old girl were taken to safety after being removed from the residence.

Tartt was taken to a hospital in Iuka, where he was pronounced dead.

The 22-year law enforcement veteran, who has been with the MBN since 2000, is survived by his wife and two children.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
