S.C. Deputy Dies After Medical Emergency

Charleston County Sheriff's Deputy Jared Murphy suffered a medical emergency while on duty and was pronounced dead at the hospital on Friday.

A Charleston County, South Carolina Sheriff's deputy died Friday after suffering a medical emergency while on duty earlier in the week.

Deputy Jared Murphy was working the evening of April 11 when he began to feel some discomfort, according to a news release.

After speaking with his supervisor, an EMS crew was called to transport the 34-year-old to a local hospital for an evaluation. Murphy coded three times while en route to the hospital, but was revived and placed in a comma in an effort to stabilize him.

Despite efforts to save the five-year veteran, he was pronounced dead on April 15.

Murphy leaves behind a loving wife and three adoring children, ranging in age from 3 years to 13 years old.
