RCMP Constable Dies Following Wreck

RCMP Constable Richer Dubuc was on patrol on Highway 202 in Saint-Bernard-de-Lacolle Monday night when he lost control of his vehicle and collided with a tractor and crashed into a ditch.

A Royal Canadian Mounted Police constable died following a wreck in Quebec Monday night.

RCMP Constable Richer Dubuc was on patrol on Highway 202 in Saint-Bernard-de-Lacolle when he lost control of his vehicle and collided with a tractor and crashed into a ditch, according to The Montreal Gazette.

Officials are currently investigating the cause of the collision, which left the tractor driver with minor injuries.

In January, the 42-year-old officer from the RCMP's outpost in Codiac, New Brunswick to a border patrol based out of St-Jean-sur-Richelieu.

Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale offered his condolences to Dubuc's wife and four children.

"On behalf of all Canadians, I would like to extend my deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of RCMP Constable Richer Dubuc, who passed away following an on-duty auto collision last evening. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time," he said. "The death of an officer is a reminder of the sacrifices, bravery and commitment of the men and women who put themselves in harm's way each day to keep our country safe and secure."

Funeral arrangements are pending.
