A Florida Department of Agriculture law enforcement officer died in a fiery crash on the highway Monday.
Officer Joshua Montaad was driving a department-issued Ford Expedition on U.S. 19 in Taylor County when it left the road and crashed into a tree before catching fire shortly before noon, according to WCTV.
The 25-year-old officer was pronounced dead on the scene.
"Officer Joshua Albert Sanchez Montaad tragically lost his life in a fatal crash while in the line of duty," Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Adam H. Putnam said in a statement. "It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the loss of such a dedicated and vibrant man who chose to make selflessly serving others his life’s work. I pray for Officer Montaad’s family, loved ones and colleagues during this time of sorrow, and may God be with us all as we grieve."
