Corrections Officer Shana Tedder complained of shortness of breath and collapsed after the use of force incident at the Christina Melton Crain Unit.

GATESVILLE, Texas -- A corrections officer at a Central Texas women's prison died after a confrontation with an inmate, Texas Department of Criminal Justice officials said.

Shana Tedder, 41, complained of shortness of breath after a "use of force" altercation with a prisoner Friday at the Christina Melton Crain Unit in Gatesville, about 45 minutes west of Waco, officials said.

Tedder reportedly collapsed while walking to another area to rest. Paramedics attempted to revive Tedder, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Tedder's cause of death has not been determined by a medical examiner, but a memorial page said the woman died of a suspected heart attack.

Tedder became a corrections officer in 2015 and had worked for the prison system since 2005, according to her Facebook page.

A GoFundMe created for Tedder's family has raised over $1,000.
