A deputy U.S. Marshal died Friday from injuries he suffered in an on-duty crash in Mississippi days before, according to the agency.
Deputy U.S. Marshal/Senior Inspector Jared Keyworth was helping with an enforcement mission near Florence on Sept. 28, the U.S. Marshals Service stated in a news release. He was airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, where he passed away Friday afternoon.
“The U.S. Marshals Service is deeply saddened by the loss of SI Keyworth," said USMS Director Ronald L. Davis. "We are a close-knit family and Jared’s loss will be felt throughout the entire organization. This tragedy is a reminder of the inherent risks our men and women face on a daily basis.”
Keyworth was a member of the Marshals Service's Investigative Operations Division and was stationed in Baton Rouge, LA. He had been with the service for 11 years.
