Ark. Corrections Officer Killed in Shooting at Jail

Arkansas State Police are trying to determine what led to the fatal shooting of a Perry County corrections officer as a 37-year-old man was being booked into the jail in Perryville.

An Arkansas corrections officer was fatally shot while booking a suspect into jail Wednesday.

The incident happened at the Perry County Jail in Perryville, according to a news release by the Arkansas State Police, which is investigating the matter. A 37-year-old man was being processed into the jail following an arrest when the shooting occurred. Details about what sparked the incident, as well as the identity of the corrections officer, have not been released.

Agents with the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation unit is heading up the probe into the shooting.
