The El Monte City Council on Tuesday, June 21, approved paying the full cost of the funerals of the two police officers fatally shot while responding to a call in the city on June 14.
The approval on Tuesday was "for all costs" related to the funerals of Sgt. Michael Paredes — who was posthumously promoted to sergeant from the rank of corporal — and Officer Joseph Santana.
The two were killed while responding to a reported stabbing at a motel in the city.

The shooting has brought the close-knit El Monte community together, as the two officers are being remembered as home-grown heroes.
Parades was posthumously promoted, the department announced Wednesday on its Facebook page.
The total cost of the funerals had not been determined, according to the City Council agenda.
But the council unanimously approved "all costs related to the funerals of our fallen heroes," the agenda motion read.
