Kenneth Fowler, a detention officer with the Pontotoc County Sheriff's Office, suffered serious head injuries and was placed in a medically induced coma after a fall during an ice storm last month.

An Oklahoma detention officer died Sunday weeks after he was placed in a medically induced coma following a slip and fall during an ice storm.

Kenneth Fowler, a detention officer with the Pontotoc County Sheriff's Office, suffered serious head injuries from a fall Jan. 30, KXII-TV reports. He was discovered in a parking lot outside the Pontotoc County Justice on Jan. 30, according to his sister.

Two kinds of brain bleeds were caused by the fall, and Fowler also suffered a hairline skull fracture. Doctors then placed him in a medically induced coma to help him recover from his injuries, but those efforts were unsuccessful.

Fowler was hired as a detention officer with the agency in April 2018. He was recently in charge of the justice center's facility maintenance.

"Kenneth was a good natured, hardworking, and humorous person," the sheriff's office stated in an online update. "Kenneth will truly be missed by all."
