A beloved Tuscaloosa County school resource officer died after collapsing at the school.
Sheriff’s Deputy Tim Johns, a military veteran assigned to Brookwood High School, collapsed at the school Tuesday. He was rushed with a police escort to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
“It is always heartbreaking to lose someone who dedicated so much of their life to serving the community,’’ the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office wrote in a Facebook post.
“Deputy Tim Johns’ passing is a great loss, not only to his colleagues at the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office but also to the students and staff at Brookwood High School, where he served as a school resource officer,’’ the post read.
“With 23 years of service, he clearly left a lasting impact on those around him.”
“Our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and the entire community as they navigate this difficult time,’’ TCSO officials wrote. “His legacy of service and kindness will be remembered.”
Tuscaloosa County Schools officials, in a letter to families and staff, said counselors and social workers will be available to our students, faculty, and staff.
“Our thoughts and prayers are very much with Deputy Johns’ family, loved ones, and all members of our school community who knew him,’’
“Tuscaloosa County SO and the Brookwood Schools lost a great man yesterday,’’ the Coaling Police Department posted on Facebook. “Our deepest sympathies and prayers go out to you and the Johns family. Tim Johns will be missed, and hole has been left in our hearts. Rest in Peace.”
