Paterson Police Sgt. David D'Arco, who served on the force for 25 years before retiring, spent 14 years spearheading the agency's "no shave" charity event to raise money for St. Jude's Children Research Hospital.

It’s been a month since he died, but the people of Paterson still haven’t gotten over the loss of David D’Arco, the retired police sergeant who raised thousands of dollars to support kids with cancer before his death last month.

D’Arco, 51, of Mount Arlington, died on Feb. 17 from cancer, months after retiring from the force after 25 years - 14 of them spent spearheading the department’s “no shave” charity event that raked in close to $23,000 annually for St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital.

David’s passing was pretty devastating,” said Angel Jimenez, president of the Paterson Policemen’s Benevolent Association. “He was very passionate and a huge advocate for raising money for St. Jude’s. He’ll be missed.”
