Page headers: SPECIAL COVERAGE: Police Week 2011
This year we traveled to Washington, D.C., to cover National Police Week, a memorial-type event that encompasses several events over a few days and serves as a gathering place for law enforcement, their families and the survivors of fallen officers to congregate and commemorate the men and women who have died serving their communities.
Events include a conference for children, spouses, siblings and parents of police survivors with sessions on commemorating their loved ones and coping with their loss. There is a 5K, an honor guard competition, a baseball game and a variety of other events, including what I found to be a pinnicle of the week, a candlelight vigil held at the Memorial that was more moving and tragic than I could have expected.
