Oct. 31--MILLVILLE -- Local authorities arrested an allegedly intoxicated Vineland man this weekend after he crashed into two city police cars involved in a traffic stop.

Authorities said the two marked police cruisers were stopped and had their overhead lights flashing when they struck in the 700 block of North Second Street by a vehicle driven by Stephen R. Bishop.

Bishop has heading north on North Second Street when he crashed into the rear of a marked patrol car at 1:47 a.m. on Saturday, police said. Bishop continued on, hitting the rear of the second marked patrol car, they said.

Police said Bishop's vehicle became disabled after the second crash, and that their investigation found him to be intoxicated. Bishop and a uniformed patrol officer who was in one of the police cruisers refused medical treatment, authorities said.

Bishop, 30, of the 400 block of Cedarwood Drive, is now charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, careless driving and reckless driving. Bishop was released on his own recognizance.
