SAN DIEGO, CA -- TW Mobile Engineering officially expanded its area of outfitting operations last month with the delivery of 35 specially outfitted Chevy Tahoes to the Albuquerque Police Department.

Albuquerque officials contracted with TW in January to outfit the special Tahoe order. APD leadership chose TW because the vehicles were designed as high-tech front-line sergeant vehicles and at the same time reflected that front-line attitude in an ecological sense, opting for flexible fuel vehicles with the capability to use E85 fuel, a more ecologically sound choice.

The unique technology systems offered by TW pair nicely with APD's forward-thinking, including clean and professional wiring harnesses, sophisticated communications and navigation systems and more. The quality of TW's work deeply impressed the city.

"The Thunderworks Tahoes are nothing short of exceptional," said Randy Chavez, Albuquerque Fleet Manager. "Their attention to detail is outstanding. TW clearly has the highest level of craftsmanship; I wouldn't hesitate to call these Tahoes works of art."

To commemorate the delivery of the final Tahoe, TW Law Enforcement Outfitting Supervisor Adam Serr presented the Albuquerque police with a special plaque. TW focuses on partnering with agencies to produce the best mobile law enforcement application possible, Serr said.

"The sergeants using these vehicles are going to be on the front lines every day," he said. "They deserve to have the best equipment available. We took Chavez's Tahoe design and ran with it, making sure that the sergeants have a vehicle that supports the work they do."

Jim Sanner, CEO for TW's parent company, Decatur Electronics, Inc, said Decatur plans to expand TW operations as the company's high-tech, low cost installation and outfitting services spread across the nation to agencies of all sizes. TW currently outfits more than 500 vehicles a year.

TW has facilities in Santee, CA, just outside San Diego. It has equipped vehicles for law enforcement for more than 20 years and has seen sales increase nearly 5,000 percent in five years. TW also develops specialty vehicles, including mobile command centers and surveillance vehicles, and has done work for the military, U.S. Customs and Homeland Security. Decatur has designed and manufactured law enforcement radar, speed and message trailers and in-car video systems for nearly 50 years.
