Roche Applied Science's LINEAR ARRAY Mitochondrial DNA HVI/HVII Region-Sequence Typing Kit rapidly analyzes forensic samples with the greatest evidentiary value, while conserving sample DNA. The kit can be used to screen samples that are not suitable for nuclear DNA analysis (for example, telogen or anagen hairs, degraded tissue, skeletal remains). From as little as 1 picogram total DNA, sufficient mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) can be amplified for both mtDNA typing and subsequent mtDNA sequencing, if necessary. Using standard lab equipment (a rotating heated water bath and an authorized thermal cycler), cost-effective analysis of up to 48 mitochondrial DNA samples can be performed in only 6 to 8 hours. The kit detects sequence variation in 18 positions within the hypervariable regions I and II of the human mitochondrial DNA genome, generating valuable information for the analysis of forensic casework.
