BALTIMORE --
The Baltimore City Police Department said two motorcyle officers were injured Sunday morning in an accident during part of an escort for National Football League Commissioner Roger Goodell.
The escort was requested by the NFL because of security concerns surrounding the anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. The Goodell convoy came from Martin State Airport in Middle River and was on its way to Baltimore when the crash occurred.
Police said the crash happened around 11:20 a.m. near Eastern Avenue and Wilbur Road in Essex.
Both officers were taken to Franklin Square Hospital, but city police said they were later transferred to Shock Trauma for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, such as road rash.
City police said the crash involved another vehicle, which was making a left turn when the officers lost control of their motorcycles.
The Baltimore County Police Department said an investigation is ongoing.
