Oct. 02--A 9-year-old boy is in critical condition after crashing a Chevy Malibu into a tree and flipping over on the northbound outer lane of Roosevelt Boulevard at Rhawn Street on Sunday morning, police said.
The boy was taken to Saint Christopher's Hospital, after the accident, which occurred about 9:30 a.m.
No one else was injured in the crash. Police were working to find out where the child's parents were at the time, and how far he drove.
The accident was the second in four months involving an underage driver in Northeast Philadelphia.
In the early morning hours of June 30, Winston Charleston of Tacony, who was just three days past his 14th birthday, crashed his mother's Chrysler Sebring into a red Volkswagen Jetta on Academy Road near Willits Road.
The crash killed a Bensalem man who was a passenger in the Jetta and injured the driver of the Jetta, as well as injuring Charleston's three teenage passengers.
In July, a Municipal Court judge ordered Charleston to stand trial on third-degree murder and related charges.
