Dec. 14--FORT WORTH -- Three police officers opened fire at a suspected robber who pointed at gun at them Wednesday morning near a store, but the suspect escaped after a brief pursuit, police said.
Investigators believe the man was wounded and got away when he jumped into a small black vehicle, police said.
One officer was injured when he fell through a ceiling of a vacant house as he searched for the gunman, police said.
The shooting occurred about 7:30 a.m. in the 6600 block of Ramey Avenue at a Family Dollar store.
Patrol officers responded to a 911 call from a resident in the neighborhood and a robbery alarm in the store, said police Sgt. Pedro Criado.
A school resource officer at nearby Dunbar High School and two other officers arrived at the store and saw an armed man walk out of the rear of the store.
The officers ordered the man to put the gun down and opened fire when he pointed it at them, Criado said. Information on whether the suspect fired the weapon was not released.
After the shooting, the man fled to a nearby neighborhood.
Officers scoured the residential neighborhood, but the suspect escaped.
