Jan. 10--Three people were injured, one of them a Kentucky Commercial Vehicle Enforcement officer, when three vehicles were involved in a collision at 9:30 a.m. Monday on the Western Kentucky Parkway in Ohio County.

According to a Kentucky State Police report, the accident occurred at the 74-mile marker after CVE Officer Timothy Blankenship, 26, of Henderson stopped a truck driven by Fred Ford, 66, of Sacramento, Calif., to conduct a safety inspection. Blankenship was sitting in his 2006 Ford Crown Victoria when a vehicle driven by Robert Thomas, 41, of Hopkinsville, who was traveling eastbound, crossed into the emergency strip, sideswiping Blankenship's cruiser and Ford's 2007 Peterbilt truck and trailer.

During the collision, Blankenship's cruiser was shoved and struck Ford, who was standing next to Blankenship's cruiser. Thomas's 2010 International truck and box trailer continued about 30 yards, where it came to rest in the eastbound ditch.

Thomas and Ford were transported by ambulance to Ohio County Hospital in Hartford. Both suffered non-life-threatening injuries. A supervisor at the hospital refused to release information about

either victim.

Blankenship was transported by Commercial Vehicle Enforcement to Owensboro Medical Health Systems in Owensboro, where he was treated and released.

All eastbound lanes were opened to traffic four hours after the accident. CVE Sgt. Malcolm Jessup investigated the accident. The Kentucky State Police and the Ohio County Ambulance Service assisted.
