DULUTH, Ga.-- Two 49ers fans were shot by a Saints fan in the parking lot of a restaurant in suburban Atlanta after an argument over San Francisco's playoff win on Saturday.
Gwinnett County Police charged 31-year-old Donald Ray Ayro with assault charges for the shooting of 30-year-old Christopher Middleton and 30-year-old Corey Adams in the parking lot of an Applebee's in Duluth.
Adams told WSB-TV that he and a friend were rooting for the 49ers when a Saints fan took offense. Adams said the fan opened fire when he and two others left the bar about an hour later.
Middletown was shot in the abdomen and was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center in critical condition. Adams suffered a minor graze to the head and was treated on the scene.
"The only thing me and my buddy said was, we were excited that the 49ers scored," Adams told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "It was only one touchdown."
Adams told the paper that the man paid for his food and quickly left, telling them he would be back. Adams, though, said he and Middleton just brushed it off.
But, Ayro returned a short time later and confronted the two men in the parking lot and shot them with a handgun.
According to the Journal-Constitution, witnesses gave police a description of the alleged gunman and his vehicle. Ayro was caught by police within minutes and stopped for questioning.
This is the third fan violence incident in the last nine months in which fans of San Francisco's sports teams have been injured.
In April, Giants fan Bryan Stow was critically beaten in the Dodger Stadium parking lot following San Francisco's opening day win over Los Angeles. Then, two 49ers fans were shot in the Candlestick Park parking lot after the 49ers-Raiders preseason game in August.
