Jan. 22--A 22-year-old man who police say struck his mother and punched his father in their home early Saturday had a stun gun used on him by officers, reports state.

Jarvis Vivia Pitts, of Sturkie Avenue in Columbus, is charged with battery, simple battery and obstruction of an officer -- all misdemeanors. He also faces a felony charge of obstruction of an officer, police said.

According to reports, officers responded about 3:45 a.m. to Pitts' Sturkie Avenue home about an assault. They met Pitts' parents, who told them their son assaulted both of them.

Pitts' mother had an argument with her son earlier that night. Afterward, he pushed her to the kitchen floor. When Pitts' father walked into the room, he saw his wife on the floor and his son on top of her, striking her, reports state.

Police said the father then tried to pull Pitts up. Pitts then turned around and hit his father in the face.

Police then tried to arrest Pitts at the home, but he pushed one of the officers. The other officer then drew his stun gun and ordered Pitts to get on the floor. Pitts began to approach that officer, who used the stun gun, reports state.

The stun gun worked, though it appeared to have little effect on Pitts. An officer then grabbed Pitts, who elbowed the officer in the head. Pitts kept resisting both officers until he was put in handcuffs, police said.
