May 10--A California man is facing several charges after police say he mailed himself marijuana.
Jason M. Montgomery, 33, of Santa Rosa, Calif., was charged with possession of marijuana, use or possession of drug paraphernalia and disorderly conduct at a hotel in Middlesex Township at 9:17 p.m. May 9.
According to the Middlesex Township Police Department, a report of a suspicious package at a hotel, which was not named in the report, was received by the department,
When they arrived, police say a strong odor of marijuana could be smelled coming from inside a US priority mail envelope.
The envelope was addressed to a guest, scheduled to check in later that night, said police.
A K-9 officer was used to detect illegal narcotics inside the package and a search warrant revealed marijuana inside the envelope.
When the guest, identified as Montgomery, checked into the hotel, he was confronted by officers as he inquired about his package.
Police say he admitted that he had shipped the drugs through the mail for his personal use.
He was taken to Cumberland County Booking, processed and arraigned, with bail set at $500. He was released after posting bail on Thursday, according to court documents.
A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for May 16 at 10 a.m. in front of Magisterial District Judge Susan K. Day.
