May 18--BOULDER -- A Brighton man accused of using his position as a contract embalmer in the Denver metro area to steal gold teeth from bodies and cremated remains in order to pawn the teeth is working toward a deal with prosecutors to settle charges.
Adrian Kline is facing felony pawn brokering violations and two misdemeanor counts of giving false information to a pawnbroker. Thursday was his third scheduled arraignment date, and it was delayed again to settle restitution issues as part of the plea deal, according to Boulder County District Attorney spokeswoman Catherine Olguin.
Kline was arrested Feb. 24 on a warrant stemming from a Boulder County grand jury indictment. According to his indictment, he worked as an embalmer at several metro area funeral homes. Pawnbrokers in Longmont called police when they noticed he was repeatedly pawning gold teeth. One pawnbroker told police she thought it was "creepy" and "weird." When she asked Kline about the teeth, he told her that he worked in funeral homes and that the money from the gold was given to charity, according to the affidavit.
Police reported he was keeping the money to help care for his family.
A search of his pawn history in the past three years revealed dozens of transactions worth thousands of dollars in Longmont, Brighton and Lakewood, police reported.
Kline is due to return to Boulder District Court on May 31 for another arraignment date.
