COLUMBUS, Ind.

A Columbus police officer is credited with saving the life of a woman who fell asleep and drove into a pond early Saturday.

Officers were called to the 1400 block of North U.S. 31 on a report of a van in a pond, the Columbus Republic reported.

Patrolman Ben Quesenbery arrived first and found the vehicle half submerged in water, filling quickly, with the driver still inside.

Quesenbery waded into the water and puled the woman from the van and took her to shore, the newspaper reported.

The 50-year-old woman, who police did not identify, told police she was driving to visit her husband in an Indianapolis hospital and fell asleep.

The woman was not injured.
