A 35-year-old Vallejo man who was arrested early Monday died three hours later while in custody, a Solano Sheriff Office spokesman said.

At about 4 a.m., David Macedo was brought into the Solano County jail by Vallejo police officers after he was arrested on suspicion of abusing the 911 telephone system, Lt. Gary Faulkner said.

"Macedo was uncooperative and aggressive at the time of booking," Faulkner said. He was then placed in a holding cell in the receiving area of the jail for observation, he added.

About three hours later, as correctional officers tried to obtain fingerprints from Macedo, Faulkner said he appeared to lose consciousness and collapsed on the floor.

The correctional officers initiated CPR, while jail medical personnel began providing medical treatment. Macedo was transported to the NorthBay Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The case is under investigation by Solano Sheriff's Office detectives, and investigators from the Solano County District Attorney's Office.

"As with any in-custody death, the Sheriff's Office also conducts an administrative investigation to verify that all policies and procedures were followed," Faulkner said.

Macedo's body was taken to the Sacramento County Coroner's Office to determine the cause of death.
