The body of a Brevard County, Fla. Sheriff's deputy was discovered Wednesday morning, days after he was reported missing.

More than 300 people had joined in the search for Corrections Deputy Darrel Conner after he was reported missing Sunday, according to Florida Today.

The 43-year-old's body was spotted in a retention pond along Garden Street near where he was last seen at the Super 8 motel at the Interstate 95 interchange.

The location had been searched several times without success, which is not uncommon in a case where a body was submerged.

When the initial search began late Sunday, there was a growing sense of urgency because Conner was a Type 2 diabetic who gone without insulin for 16 hours.

"We knew that each minute that ticked away with his medical condition was a minute we didn’t want to face," Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey told reporters.

Connor, who had worked for the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office at the county jail for 15 years, was a field training officer who instructed new hires.

"We lost one of our own this morning," Ivey said. "Today we lost a member of our family. It has been overwhelming, we are deeply saddened by the loss of Darrel."

The Brevard County medical examiner will perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
