Criminal charges will not be filed against a D.C. police officer who "dry-fired" his weapon at a colleague during roll call earlier this year.
The officer allegedly pointed an unloaded weapon at the head of another officer and pulled the trigger during the meeting on April 16, reportedly under orders from a sergeant as part of a training exercise, according to WUSA-TV.
"The U.S. Attorney's Office reviewed the incident and declined to pursue criminal charges," U.S. Attorney's Office spokesman Bill Miller told the news station.
A Metropolitan Police Department spokesman said the internal investigation remains ongoing.
Both the officer who allegedly fired the weapon and the sergeant who allegedly ordered him to do so are assigned to regular duties, pending the investigation.
