Two Suspects in Custody in Fatal Shooting of Ill. Officer

A woman turned herself in and a man was arrested in connection with a hotel shooting that killed Bradley Police Sgt. Marlene Rittmanic and critically wounded another officer.

One man was arrested, and a woman turned herself in stemming from the shooting that killed an Illinois police and critically wounded another last week.

Bradley Police Sgt. Sgt. Marlene Rittmanic and Officer Tyler J. Bailey were responding to a noise complaint at a Comfort Inn in Kankakee County late Wednesday when the shooting happened. Rittmanic, 49, died, and Bailey was listed in critical condition after undergoing surgery.

Police arrested one suspectDarius D. Sullivan—on Friday in Manchester, Indiana, The Associated Press reports. A SWAT unit and U.S. Marshals were executing a search warrant on the home when Sullivan, 25, surrendered.

Later on Friday, a second suspect—Xandria A. Harris—turned herself in to Bradley police. Harris, 26, is believed to have been at the hotel at the time of the shooting.

Two other people accused of impeding the hunt for Sullivan and Harris were arrested and charged Thursday. Illinois State Police continue to investigate the incident.

The shooting of the Bradley officers happened hours after the fatal shooting of another Illinois law enforcement officer. Wayne County Deputy Sean Riley was discovered shot and killed along Interstate 64 after he had responded to a motorist in need of assistance.
