The Justice Department today, November 8, announced federal indictments against three people involved in a foiled Iranian plot to assassinate Donald Trump before the election. According to court documents, Iranian authorities asked one of the defendants, Fareh Shakeri, to organize the plan to kill Trump.
The man, who is Iranian-American and whom the FBI describes as an "agent" of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, is believed to have fled to Iran. Carlisle Rivera and Jonathon Loadholt, two American citizens accused of helping the Iranian government control another citizen of Iranian origin, were arrested in New York.
According to the indictment, the pasdaran ordered Shakeri to kill Trump to avenge the death of Qassem Soleimani, the head of the Quds Force, killed in a US raid in Baghdad in January 2020.
