A Texas man was shot in the neck at his home, then cops tackled an armed suspect, police told news outlets.
The shooting happened at 6:20 a.m. Thursday, March 6, at a home in the Houston suburb of La Porte, KTRK reported. The homeowner was in their garage with the door open when a man driving a fleet truck pulled up, got out and shot him in the neck, according to police.
Police say the suspect passed by the house several times because he thought he saw his ex-girlfriend’s car parked there, KPRC reported.
The vehicle belonged to the homeowner, but the suspect was seemingly convinced his ex-girlfriend was in the house, so he confronted the homeowner and his wife, police told the outlet. It’s unclear what led the man to open fire.
He was standing in the front yard of the home when police arrived, KHOU reported, adding that he had a gun in his waistband and was holding an object in each hand. Officers tackled him after he refused to follow their commands, police said.
The homeowner was taken to a hospital by helicopter, the station reported.
The couple’s children were at the home during the shooting, police told KRIV.
La Porte is a 25-mile drive southeast from downtown Houston.
