Body camera footage captured a scary moment for a Las Vegas police officer who was stabbed in the head while responding to a domestic disturbance last week.
The incident happened as at around 1 a.m. as officers were investigating a domestic battery report at an East Las Vegas apartment, Assistant Clark County Sheriff Sasha Larkin said at a Monday news conference, according to The Associated Press. Sandra Lopez-Ochoa, 25, and her brother, who wasn't named by authorities, had each called police with reports that the other was responsible for physical assaults.
When an officer went to grab Lopez-Ochoa's wrist, the woman began slashing him with a knife, wounding his head. Another officer fired five rounds, fatally shooting Lopez-Ochoa.
In the body camera footage, blood can be seen dripping from the wounded officer's head and on his gloved hand. The officer's head wound is "definitely more than superficial," but he is recovering at home, said Larkin.
The officer shot Lopez-Ochoa is on administrative leave following the shooting per department protocols.
