Watch Chicago Police Officers Stop Suspect in Stabbing Attack

July 3, 2024
A man brandishing a knife was fatally shot by Chicago police when they were flagged down and stopped the suspect from stabbing another individual in an intersection.

Body camera footage captured a frantic scene of Chicago police stopping a knife-wielding man from stabbing another individual on the city's west side in May.

The incident happened May 27 when two officers in Chicago's Austin neighborhood were flagged down because of a man attacking another person in the street, according to the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA). Officers ordered him to drop his knife, but the suspect wouldn't comply.

That's when officers opened fire, and both the suspect and victim were struck. The two were rushed to the hospital, where the suspect was pronounced dead. The victim remains in critical condition, according to COPA.

The shooting is under investigation.
