Watch Las Vegas Police Officer Save Woman on Balcony of Burning Building

Aug. 2, 2024
Body camera footage captured Las Vegas police officers using a dumpster to reach a woman trapped on her balcony while a fire tore through her apartment building.

Quick-thinking Las Vegas police officers were honored Wednesday after using a dumpster to rescue a woman trapped inside a burning apartment late last year.

Officers responded to the Dec. 27 fire and saw a woman trapped on a balcony as flames shot from the building, KVVU-TV reports. The officers try to calm the woman and ask if there are others inside the building before jumping into action.

Looking for a way to reach the woman, officers dragged a dumpster under the balcony, while another officer jumped on top of it to try to reach the woman. Once the officer got on top of the dumpster, the woman lowered herself to safety with the officer's help.

“Oh, thank you! I’m fine. Thank you,” the woman is heard saying in the footage.

A ceremony Wednesday recognized the officers involved in the rescue.
