AKRON, OH — The suspect was elusive, but Akron police officers eventually got their goat.

Officers were able to save a goat running loose Friday on Ohio 8 north near Tallmadge Avenue. On Thursday, the department released bodycam video of the incident.

The great goat chase occurred at about 9 p.m. Friday. The video shows officers trying to catch the female goat while she runs along the side of Ohio 8, with vehicles continuing to speed by.

The goat gives the officers a scare as she darts into the highway, barely avoiding being hit by vehicles. At one point she crosses to the other side of the highway. She then nonchalantly crosses the highway again as she’s nearly hit by a vehicle while an officer futilely yells “Come here.”

A patrol car manages to slow the traffic and when the goat runs to a hilly, grassy area on the side of the highway, an officer jumps on it and pins it down. After calming down and enjoying some petting, she was safely loaded into a vehicle and turned over to an animal rescue group, which took her to a farm.

It’s unknown where the goat came from as she had no tags or chips, police say, but it’s been named Fugitive for now.
