Eight Fairfax County police officers were treated for burns and smoke inhalation after a domestic violence suspect stuffed electronics into his oven and set fire to the kitchen.

Eight police officers in Fairfax County, Virginia were treated after a domestic violence suspect set a fire in an apartment Monday morning.

The officers responded to an apartment in the 11800 block of Federalist Way in Fairfax around 10 a.m. after someone called police to report screams and the sound of breaking glass, according to The Washington Post.

When police arrived, they found that a woman inside a unit had been hurt, and a man had just stuffed electronics into his oven and set fire to the kitchen.

Officials said the man, identified as 26-year-old Hussani White, then confronted the officers naked in a stairwell and hit two officers multiple times before he dragged one of them down the flight of stairs.

Two officers then used pepper spray to try to subdue the man as more officers rushed to the scene. As the officers assisted residents to evacuate the surrounding apartments to avoid the fire, one officer's arm was burned and others suffered smoke inhalation and pepper spray exposure.

All eight officers who were taken to the hospital have been released and are expected to make full recoveries.

White was charged with assaulting police officers and attempted arson.
