A dash camera video capturing the high speed crash that led to charges against a Florida deputy has been made public.

Palm Beach County Deputy Brandon Hegele was driving 104 miles per hour on Southern Boulevard in May 2016 when he collided with a Smart Car driven by 60-year-old Harry Deshommes, according to WPEC-TV.

Deshommes survived the crash, but had to have his spleen removed and suffered a traumatic brain injury, fractured skull, a broken left arm, back, ribs and pelvis.

Hegele was charged with reckless driving and his trial is set to begin Aug. 28.

Hegele was on the lookout for a suspect vehicle in connection to a felony shortly before the crash, but deputies say he was told three times not to pursue or try to stop the vehicle.

The video shows the deputy change lanes nine times and only turn on his emergency lights to go through intersections.

Hegele has been on unpaid leave since September 2016.
