Fulton County Sheriff's Deputies Kenny Ingram and Anthony White were killed in a two-vehicle crash on their way to pick up an inmate to transfer to the Fulton County Jail Tuesday morning.

GROVETOWN, Georgia -- Georgia State Patrol is investigating a Tuesday crash that resulted in the death of two law enforcement officers on I-20 eastbound near exit 190 in Grovetown.

According to GSP, two Fulton County Sheriff's Office deputies died from injuries sustained in the crash. The Columbia County Sheriff's Office received a call regarding the two-vehicle crash around 11:15 a.m.

The Fulton County Sheriff's Office confirmed the deaths and identified the deputies as Deputy Anthony White and Deputy Kenny Ingram. They were both on duty in a patrol car and assigned to the Law Enforcement Division of the sheriff's office.

According to the sheriff's office, the deputies were on their way to pick up an inmate to transfer to the Fulton County Jail. White was a seven-year veteran who joined the sheriff's office in Dec. 2012, while Ingram was about to complete 15 years of service in October.

A GSP investigation revealed the Fulton County Sheriff's Office Dodge Charger, occupied by the two deputies, struck the rear of a tractor-trailer that was stopped for traffic in the left eastbound lane.

The accident closed all lanes on I-20 eastbound. Traffic began moving again around 2 p.m.

Gov. Brian Kemp, Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr and Sen. Kelly Loeffler expressed their condolences to the families and friends of the deputies on Twitter.

Fulton County Sheriff Ted Jackson released a statement expressing his condolences.

"These men had a profound sense of duty throughout their distinguished careers with this agency and for us and this county, the loss of these deputies is devastating," he said.

Chaplains who volunteer with the Fulton County Sheriff's Office are offering grief counseling to the deputies' family members and colleagues.
