N.Y. Trooper Seriously Injured by Passing Pickup Truck During Stop

A New York State Police trooper suffered severe injuries after being struck by a passing pickup truck while working with a tow truck operator during a traffic stop in Colonie.

A New York State Police trooper was seriously injured in a crash during a traffic stop Saturday.

The incident happened just before 12:30 p.m. along Interstate 87 in Colonie, syracuse.com reports.  A trooper had stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation, and the car needed to be towed.

When the trooper and the tow truck operator were outside their vehicles, a pick-up truck struck them both. The pickup driver stopped and called 9-1-1, and emergency crews responded to the scene.

The trooper was rushed to the hospital with severe injuries. The tow truck driver suffered minor injuries in the crash.

The pickup truck driver was taken into custody, and the incident is under investigation.
