A suspected intoxicated driver stopped by a McFarland police officer on Thanksgiving got out of his car, laid on the ground and said, "You got me," police reported.
The incident began around 1:40 a.m. when the officer saw a vehicle driving on Broadhead Street without its lights on. When the officer stopped the vehicle, the driver immediately got out, put their hands up and laid on the ground, telling the officer, "You got me," Interim Chief Brian Redman said in a statement.
The driver gave the officer consent to be searched, and the officer found cocaine in their pocket. The officer also found a pitcher on the passenger side floorboard that was half full of beer that the driver took from a local bar. About 14 grams of mushrooms and other drug paraphernalia were located later during a vehicle search.
After standardized field sobriety tests, the 40-year-old Deerfield man was arrested and taken to the Dane County Jail on tentative charges of a fourth offense of OWI, having a prohibited alcohol concentration, possession of cocaine, and possession of a controlled substance (hallucinogenic).
Other charges for operating while revoked and failing to install an ignition interlock device are being referred to the Dane County District Attorney's office, Redman said.
