Ticketed Motorist Attacks NYPD Traffic Agent, Steals Summons Book

Dec. 20, 2024
A man upset about receiving a parking ticket in Queens argued with and attacked an NYPD traffic enforcement agent before driving off with the agent's electronic summons book.

An irate motorist who had just gotten a parking ticket attacked and then robbed an NYPD traffic enforcement agent of his electronic summons book on a busy Queens street, police said Friday.

Cops have released images of the suspect and his Acura SUV hoping someone recognizes him.

The 56-year-old traffic agent was checking cars on 63rd Drive near Queens Blvd. in Rego Park at about 4:20 p.m. on Wednesday when a man in a hooded sweatshirt and baseball cap stormed up to him.

The man was outraged that the agent had given his white SUV a parking ticket a few moments earlier, cops said.

As the two argued, the motorist shoved the agent and struck him in the hand. When the agent’s summons machine fell to the sidewalk, the suspect swooped it up and ran off with it, cops said. He then got into his vehicle and sped off.

No injuries were reported.

Detectives acquired surveillance video of the robbery suspect and his SUV. The robber was caught on camera leaving a nearby restaurant before his confrontation with the traffic agent.

Anyone with information regarding the suspect is urged to call NYPD Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
