Dallas Police Officer Injured Responding to Shooting that Wounded 5

A Dallas police officer was rushed to the hospital with an unspecified injury after responding to a shooting in the city's Red Bird area that wounded five people, one critically.

Five people were wounded in a shooting and an officer was injured while responding in the Red Bird area of Dallas early Saturday, police say.

Officers responded about 4:30 a.m. to a shooting call at a business in the 100 block of Laureland Road, near South R.L. Thornton Freeway.

Five people were taken to a hospital with gunshot wounds, with one in critical condition, police said.

One of the officers was injured at the location. Police did not say how the officer was hurt. Police said the officer was taken to a hospital with an injury they said was not life-threatening.

The shooting was an active investigation Saturday morning, and police did not release any additional information, including whether any suspect had been identified.
