The process of freeing a massive moose from a backyard swing appeared to be terrifying for all involved, including the moose, Colorado video shows.
A pair of Silverthorne police officers worked together to wrestle the swing from the animal’s antlers — and quickly ran away once it was free, the video shows.
The moose, probably scared and confused, lumbers to its feet and also takes off running in the other direction, the video shows.
The town of Silverthorne shared the video on Facebook on Friday, Sept. 6, adding that state wildlife officials advised them on the encounter so the officers weren’t simply flying blind.
“With assistance from Colorado Parks and Wildlife on how to free the moose, the Silverthorne Police officers were able to safely and quickly free the moose without causing harm,” the town said in the post.
The town warned the public not to attempt a rescue if they ever find themselves in a similar situation.
“If you ever encounter a wild animal in distress or in need of help, please do not interfere,” the town said. “If you have concerns, please always call Colorado Parks and Wildlife or 911 so trained responders can safely and appropriately help the animal in need.”
The town also shared tips from Colorado Parks and Wildlife on living with moose.
