A D.C. police officer was wounded and a suspect was killed during a shootout Tuesday night.
Officials said the exchange of gunfire occurred in the 1300 block of Queen Street, Northeast in the Trinidad neighborhood around 9:10 p.m., according to WUSA-TV.
Both the officer and the suspect were transported to a local hospital. The officer was treated and released while the suspect was pronounced dead.
Police Chief Cathy Lanier told reporters that officers with the department's Gun Recovery Unit were in the area when the shootout occurred.
"I don't know the initial circumstances around the contact," Lanier said. "It all happened in the street."
Police have not released whether the wounded officer who was shot was working undercover or in uniform.
The incident is currently under investigation.
