A man from Missouri was shot and killed by police Tuesday in Trigg County after he shot a sheriff’s deputy during a pursuit, according to Kentucky State Police.
The incident began when the man, identified as 21-year-old Jermaine Jackson Jr., was pulled over by troopers near the mile-marker 42 on I-24. KSP said Jackson fled, and the vehicle pursuit lasted until he crashed near mile-marker 65.
Jackson then ran away and began shooting at officers, hitting a Trigg County sheriff’s deputy, according to KSP. Three deputies returned fire and killed Jackson.
The deputy was taken to a hospital and is stable, according to KSP. No other injuries were reported.
Jackson died at the scene.
The incident is being investigated by KSP’s Critical Incident Response Team, which has jurisdiction to investigate all shootings involving law enforcement in Kentucky.
