A Crandall police officer and a Kaufman County deputy were shot and a man was killed early Saturday at a gas station near Forney, authorities say.

Shortly after 3 a.m., the two officers responded to a panic alarm in the 5000 block of FM 741, between Crandall and Forney, according to an email statement from the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office. When the officers arrived, they encountered a man and shots were fired.

The officers were each hit in the leg, the statement said. The suspect was also shot, but despite medical treatment, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The officers were taken to Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas for treatment, the statement said. Their injuries are considered non-life-threatening.

No other details were immediately available. The Texas Rangers are leading the investigation.
