A Trinity County, California Sheriff's K-9 is recovering after he was stabbed by a suspect running from a marijuana grow on Thursday.
K-9 Johnny remains in stable condition and was kept overnight for observation, according to KRCR-TV.
Officials said that Johnny is expected to make a full recovery after undergoing physical therapy and is expected to return to his regular duties in as soon as a month.
Julie Hemenway, the fiance of Johnny's handler, gave an update of the dog's condition on Facebook.
"First, thank you Trinity Animal Hospital. They are doing so well with Johnny. They have gone above and beyond for us." Hemenway said, "Johnny was a ball of energy this morning, he came trotting through the vet office like nothing happened, wagging his tail and marking his territory. The wound missed all vitals and jugular by grave of god. He will be recovering and hopefully gets to come home tonight!".
Johnny was out working with Campaign Against Marijuana Plants (CAMP) eradicating marijuana when he was chasing down a suspect that was carrying a 10-inch knife and a pistol.
Officials said were unable to track down the suspect after he fled into the woods.
Johnny was flown by a California Highway Patrol helicopter to the Weaverville Airport where he was then transported to a local animal hospital.
