COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. --
A girl in Cottage Grove is raising money to get a former police dog a wheelchair.
Calen Haggerty, 11, placed a donation jar in her fifth-grade classroom with a goal to raise money for Kline.
The German shepherd was injured during a training exercise four years ago when he chomped on a bite sleeve and pinched a nerve in his neck, which affected his legs.
Kline still has endless energy; he just can’t use his hind legs very well.
"I got this idea when I saw Kline walking around, scraping his leg up. It was sad to see him walking around,” Calen says. "The wheelchair is going to help him have a better quality of life.”
The wheelchair costs $500 and Calen says if extra money comes in, she wants to start a fund to help other injured police dogs.
